An AMSI Team Favorite: Homemade Dog Food Recipe

At AMSI, we know home is about more than four walls. It's where we make memories, share meals, and care for our four-legged family members, too.

This week, we're sharing a homemade dog food recipe from one of our very own AMSI team member, Birsen! Made with ground turkey, quinoa, fresh produce, and a few simple ingredients, it's a thoughtful way to show your pup a little extra love.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey or 90% lean ground beef
  • 1 cup quinoa
  • 1 large carrot or 1 cup baby carrots
  • 1 can no-sodium-added peas or green beans
  • 1 red apple
  • ½ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3½ cups water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Prep Time: 10–15 minutes
Cook Time:
25–30 minutes

Let's Get Cooking!

  1. Brown the meat. In a large pot, add olive oil and brown the ground turkey or lean ground beef.
  2. Add the vegetables and quinoa. Stir in the shredded carrot (or diced baby carrots), drained peas or green beans, quinoa, and water.
  3. Simmer. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20–25 minutes.
  4. Add the fruit. Stir in the blueberries and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Before serving, add the finely diced, cored apple, with all seeds and stem removed.
  5. Cool and serve. Allow the mixture to cool completely before serving an appropriate portion to your pup.

Why Quinoa?

Quinoa provides plant-based protein, fiber, minerals, and antioxidants. It's naturally gluten-free and can be a useful ingredient in some dogs' diets.

For dogs with certain health conditions, including kidney disease or a history of calcium oxalate bladder stones, ask your veterinarian whether quinoa or an alternative such as brown rice is appropriate.

A Little Love in Every Bowl

Whether it's a cozy place to curl up or a homemade meal prepared with care, sometimes the little things make a house feel like home.

From our AMSI family to yours, here's to happy homes and happy pups! Traveling with your pet? No worries! Explore AMSI's pet friendly housing options!

Important pet nutrition note: This is a team member's homemade recipe, not a veterinarian-formulated complete diet. Consult your veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist before using it as a regular meal replacement, particularly for dogs with allergies or medical conditions. Refrigerate promptly, use refrigerated portions within 3–4 days, and freeze the remainder for later in the week. Serving amounts depend on your dog's individual needs.

Robb Fleischer Calls for a Fresh Look at San Francisco Housing Policy Featured in the August 2026 edition of the San Francisco Apartment Association Magazine In the August 2026 edition of the San Francisco Apartment Association (SFAA) Magazine, AMSI Corporate Broker Robb Fleischer shares his perspective on the future of San Francisco's rental housing market in an open letter titled “A Call to Reexamine Housing Policy, Property Rights, and the Future of San Francisco.” Drawing on more than 45 years of experience as a San Francisco resident and property management professional, Robb examines the growing challenges facing housing providers and the importance of balancing tenant protections with the long-term sustainability of rental housing. The Challenges Facing San Francisco Housing In his letter, Robb discusses the financial pressures affecting rental property owners, including rising insurance premiums, maintenance expenses, regulatory requirements, and construction costs. He also explores how rent regulations, development barriers, and an increasingly complex regulatory environment can influence housing investment and the availability of rental properties. A Call for Constructive Dialogue At the heart of Robb's message is the belief that protecting tenants and maintaining a healthy rental housing market should not be competing objectives. Rather than advocating for the elimination of tenant protections, he encourages policymakers to reexamine the cumulative impact of existing regulations and consider approaches that support affordability, responsible property ownership, and future housing development. His letter calls for a thoughtful conversation about how San Francisco can address its housing challenges while creating a more sustainable environment for both residents and housing providers. Read the Full Article Robb's letter offers a perspective shaped by decades of firsthand experience in San Francisco's rental housing industry.
