Renovation VS Remodel

Curious about Renovation VS Remodel?

Now more than ever homeowners are finding themselves staying put and looking for ways to improve their current living spaces. Maybe the initial thought of selling or buying a more spacious home for your growing family is not quite feasible yet.  If you're among them, you might be wondering whether a renovation or remodel is right for you. While the terms are often used interchangeably, there are important differences to keep in mind.

Renovation:

A renovation refers to restoring something to a previous state.  It typically involves making cosmetic improvements to a space without changing its intended purpose. Examples might include upgrading countertops, installing new light fixtures, or painting/changing the hardware of cabinetry. A renovation project can have a significant impact on the look and feel of a space, and can even increase your home's equity.

Remodel

A remodel, on the other hand, refers to creating something new.  It involves major structural changes that alter the overall function or purpose of a space. Examples might include adding a primary bathroom to a bedroom or creating an open floor plan between a living room, dining room, and kitchen.

Remodeling projects are generally more costly than renovations due to the need for specialized contractors, permits, and design professionals.

When deciding which type of project to undertake, consider your end goals for your home. If you're looking to update your aesthetics or make minor improvements, a renovation might be the right choice. If you're looking to add a room or significantly change the layout of your home, a remodel might be more appropriate.

Budget is another important consideration. If a remodel is on the horizon but still several years away, you might consider undertaking some low-key renovations in the meantime to make your home more livable.

Finally, it's important to be honest with yourself about whether your current home is worth investing in. If you're not sure whether a renovation or remodel is the right choice, consider consulting with a trusted team of professionals who can help guide you through the process.

Whether you choose to renovate or remodel your home, remember to set aside plenty of inspiration and work with a team of professionals who can help you achieve your goals. With careful planning and consideration, you will only add value to the property while creating the home of your dreams.
